North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses after an attack at a taxi rank in Selby.

The force says the incident happened when a local husband and wife were waiting for a taxi after a night out in town (23 March).

When the taxi arrived, two men appeared and pushed in front of them.

The man required hospital treatment after he was allegedly punched and knocked unconscious.

The woman was reportedly assaulted and suffered hand and arm injuries.

Officers say the two suspects then left in a taxi.

In a statement, North Yorkshire Police said: "The injured man was wearing a white t-shirt and a stone Carhartt overshirt, blue jeans and trainers with an orange stripe.

"The injured woman was wearing a black knee-length dress with a dark blue denim jacket, and a green handbag and knee-length boots."

Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and trying to locate the relevant taxi firms for further information.

There is currently no description of the two suspects

They are urging anyone with more information to come forward.
