Police searching for missing 53 year old Gerrard Burrell-Hodgson say they've discovered a man's body in a rural area near Helmsley

Police searching for a missing North Yorkshire man say they've found a man's body.

It was discovered in a rural area north of Helmsley on Saturday morning.

53 year old Gerrard Burrell-Hodgson from Deighton near Northallerton has been missing since Monday 1st March.

Officers have been conducting searches in the North York Moors and the Howardian Hills, a police helicopter has been assisting with these searches.

A formal identification of the body has yet to take place, but Mr Burrell-Hodgson's family have been informed.

Inspector Sarah Sanderson of North Yorkshire Police has thanked all the members of the public who have helped and supported the family and police as they tried to locate Mr Burrell-Hodgson.

Police say his family is now being supported by specially-trained officers.
