Fire crews had to free a man from his vehicle after a three vehicle crash on the A59 near York.

It happened at the junction for Hessay just after 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to allow a man to get out of his vehicle, he had no obvious injuries, but was checked over by paramedics.

The occupants of the two other vehicles involved managed to get out of their vehicles themselves and were also checked over by paramedics for minor injuries.

The collision caused travel disruption as the A59 was closed in both directions, with motorists urged to avoid the area.

The road had re-opened by around 6.30pm.
