York voted best large UK City to visit according to a new survey
Which? say the City is also great value for money
In an annual survey on the best UK city breaks, the majority of members have chosen York as the best large UK city to visit.
York received a score of 86% in the Which? survey which took into account, average hotel price, cultural sights, value for money etc.
York scored very highly for cultural sights with 5/5 stars.
Characterised by its iconic Gothic Minster with medieval stained glass windows, Which? is not suprised that York scored five out of five stars for cultural attractions in this year’s survey.
And it’s easy to while away a few hours strolling along the Shambles - a medieval street lined by independent shops and restaurants.
York got the full five stars for food and drink and accommodation from Which? members and, with four stars for value for money, you’re more likely to get your money’s worth here compared with other cities in the survey.
Other attractions include the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Viking Centre (where you can take a carriage ride back in time through a recreation of Viking Life) and Spark York - a street food and arts centre shipping container project.
Belfast came second in the survey whilst the Scottish capital, Edinburgh scored top marks for cultural sights, accommodation and food and drink.
Which? Also had other survey categories like “Best medium UK cities for a short break” and “Best small UK cities for a short break”. Cambridge was the best medium city and Wells was the best small city.
The survey was completed in April 2022 by 3,662 Which? Members.
