It's as calls grow to ban disposable e-cigarettes

There's a warning to parents after our investigation uncovered vapes that are nine times the legal limit being sold in North Yorkshire.

Trading standards says the "rainbow candy" flavour vapes are clearly being marketed at children.

In the UK it's illegal to sell a disposable vape that's contains more than 2ml, this one contains 18ml.

The legal amount of puffs per vape should be 600, this variety contains 9,000.

Andy Eccles is an officer with North Yorkshire Trading standards: "The regulations have been specific they should not be more than 2ml, so to have 18 is a significant step up, clearly the idea behind that is people can consume greater quantities in a shorter period of time, I can understand the concerns."

"We are aware that there are non compliances in the market place, when notified of these cases we are responding to them here in North Yorkshire. We've seized many thousands of these products in the time that we have bene active in this area."

Should disposable vapes be banned?

Some have called for disposable vapes to be banned but trading standards officers aren't sure that's the answer: "From our perspective bans can actually have a negative impact as well, they can actually push an issue which you can see on the surface and tackle underground which makes it even more difficult to respond."

"It's going to have to be a case of them establishing what the evidence is and forming a policy on that, but from our perspective a ban wouldn't necessarily have the desired effect. However we got concerns particularly round youth vaping as well."
