Police investigating cause of fire at empty King Street building

The fire that tore through a former nightclub in Wigan town centre over the weekend is now being investigated as a possible arson case, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has confirmed.

Crews were called to the empty commercial building on King Street at around 10.30pm on Saturday, 22nd November 2025. Six fire engines attended the scene, including one from Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service, alongside specialist vehicles such as an Enhanced Rescue Unit and a drone.

Firefighters worked through the night and managed to extinguish the blaze using two ground monitors and an aerial ladder platform vehicle. Crews remained at the site until Sunday morning.

GMP have told us today that their Criminal Investigation Department is examining the case and treating it as a possible arson.
