Tributes pour in for the Duke of Edinburgh from across Wigan & St Helens
People across the region have been sending their condolences to the royal household

It was announced this afternoon that Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, has died.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
“Further announcements will made in due course."
“The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”
The news has sparked tributed from organisations across Wigan & St Helens.
Wigan Council say a book of condolence will open tomorrow at 11am tomorrow at Wigan Parish Church.
There will also be an online book for people to sign shortly.
St Helens Borough Council have also opened an online book of condolence.
The region's MP's have also expressed their sadness.
Wigan MP Lisa Nandy has reflected on the Duke's multiple trips to Wigan including most recently in 2009 when he visted the Heinz factory.
Marie Rimmer, the MP for St Helens South and Whiston, has praised local efforts to rember the Duke, posting a picture of the town hall's flag flying at half mast.
MP for St Helens North Conor McGinn has reflected on the life of Prince Philip saying he was "remarkable" and "led a life of duty and dedication."
Our regions sports clubs have also released statements after learning of the death of His Royal Highness.
Wigan Warriors say their thoughts "are with Her Majesty The Queen."
Leigh Centurions have also released words of condolence, reflecting upon the visit the Duke made to open Leigh Sports Village with The Queen in 2009.
