Man dies in Wigan house fire

Detectives are now trying to find out how the fire started

A man has died after a house fire in Wigan in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to Wenlock Grove, in Hindley at about 3am on Saturday 21 August.

A man was rescued from the building, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives and Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service are now working to find out how the fire started.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Police were called by GMFRS just before 3am today (21 August) to a report of a property on fire on Wenlock Grove, Hindley and a man having been rescued from the building.

"Emergency services attended and despite the best efforts of paramedics, a man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Detectives are carrying out enquiries alongside GMFRS to determine the cause of the fire.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and trace his next of kin.
