A man has ben charged after a woman was knocked down and killed during a police pursuit in Wigan.

It happened on Bolton Road, in the Ashton area of the town on Monday afternoon.

Police were pursuing a vehicle that had failed to stop when a collision occurred involving another vehicle, which was not involved in the pursuit, hitting Kathleen Kirby.

She sustained serious injuries, and passed away a short time later in hospital.

GMP say they have now charged Chad Rimington, aged 33, with causing death by dangerous driving and causing death when driving an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle.

The force has now referred itself to the Independent Office of Police Conduct, as is standard with any accident from a police pursuit.

Rimington, of no fixed address, has been remanded in custody and will appear at Wigan Magistrates Court today.

In a statement on twitter, the force said: "This morning, Chad Rimington (22/11/1990) of NFA was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing death when driving an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle, following the death of a woman in Wigan on Monday."
