A man's died after a car crashed into a tree in St Helens.

It happened in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 11 August).

At around 2am, emergency services were called to Scafell Road to reports of a collision involving a Renault Megane and a tree.

Police say Jordan Yates, who was 24, died a short time later.

Jordan's family has been told, and specialist officers are now supporting them.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of the man who sadly lost his life this morning. They are being supported by our specially trained liaison officers while the investigation commences.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or properties in the area that may have CCTV or doorbell footage to please contact us.”
