Manchester is supporting military veterans this weekend and showing support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces Community.

The Armed Forces Day 2024 commemoration will take place on today (Saturday 29), 11:00am-4pm in St Peter’s Square.

Formal celebrations begin from 11:30am with a military parade and poignant performances from the Lancashire Artillery Band.

Throughout the day, the event will feature live music, face-painting and an Army Light Gun will be on display.

Specially selected information stalls will also be in attendance such as Archive+/Libraries and the Veterans Museums that will give visitors a look book into the history of life in the Armed Forces.

Councillor Tommy Judge, Lead member for the Armed Forces said: "We just recently had the D-Day commemorations, and you listen to guys who are now in the later 90s, early centurions, and you see the pain that they still suffer from today... it's amazing, the sacrifices men and women made,.. I'm in awe of them really.

"It's an opportunity for the city, and the country, to say thank you for our Armed Forces, for the work they've done, they do and will continue to do into the future."
