New data released by the NHS shows nearly a third (63%) of people in Wigan & St Helens have now had at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine and almost 300,000 doses have been given out in total.

The administration of second jabs is now speeding up across the boroughs with 32,983 having being given out in total up until the 4th of April.

Meanwhile, the number of people who've had at least one dose of the vaccine stands at 260,169, making up 63% of the population of Wigan & St Helens.

Across the UK, the vaccine rollout has slowed somewhat so far this month due to an expected slump in supplies.

Just over 2.1 million doses have been given out in the past, compared to an average of around 3 million jabs per week in February.

However, it's hoped the distribution of the Moderna vaccine which has now started to be sent across the UK will help to boost efforts again.

Despite the slow-down, the UK still remains one of the worlds best-performing countries in terms of the COVID-19 vaccinations.
