Train passengers across Yorkshire are being urged to plan journeys carefully - as Northern Rail makes changes from next week.

The timetable alterations will come into effect from Monday 14th December.

The train operator says it's a result of the impact of the pandemic, and builds on changes made in September.

Some additional services will be provided on key routes, but the focus is on reliability and punctuality.

Tony Baxter, Regional Director for Northern, said: “This has been a difficult year and we fully understand how important rail services are to the communities we serve.

“We have done all we can to provide the best possible service during unprecedented conditions and our new timetables are designed to build on the enhancements we delivered in the autumn and retain high levels of reliability.

“As part of the new schedule we will, once again, run more trains on the Settle and Carlisle Line and Bentham Line and will return peak services between Sheffield and Gainsborough. Elsewhere we will, at least, maintain current service levels, though there may be changes to the times at which those services operate.”
