Yorkshire Festival set to attract thousands of visitors
The 2016 Yorkshire festival has launched in Leeds city centre today.
Live performances took place at Trinity Leeds, with a short film revealing the upcoming summer acts.
Events will take place from 16 June - 3 July and will feature hundreds of international and local acts.
It's hoped the festival will boost tourism in Yorkshire through a full programme, including performances by Northern Ballet, Northern Dance and Northern Opera.
Artistic director Matt Burman said: "We want people from across the country and all over the world to come and join us as we showcase our rich and diverse culture.
"We want to introduce visitors to our welcoming towns and cities."
Welcome to Yorkshire’s Chief Executive Sir Gary Verity said: "It cements our area as one of the top places in the country for arts and culture."
He told Radio Aire the economic impact of the festival will be significant, with £10m being raised in revenue last year.
800,000 people came to the 2015 festival. Of those, 50,000 had never been to an arts and culture event before - and Gary hopes this year's event will inspire locals to get more involved in the Yorkshire creativity scene.
