Arrest after woman dies in crash near Garforth

Police are appealing for witnesses after a camper van and a lorry collided on the M1

A lorry driver has been arrested after a woman died in a crash on the M1 near to Garforth on Wednesday (June 20).

It happened on the northbound carriageway at junction 47 at around 15:20, and the road had to be closed for more than eight hours.

A 63-year-old woman who wsa in a campervan was pronounced dead at the scene, and a man was left with serious injuries to his leg.

Police said a 54-year-old lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released while investigations continue.

West Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, or anyone who saw the vehicles in the moments leading up to it.
