Police are appealing for witnesses after a 17-year-old boy was attacked with a knife during A reggae concert in Chapeltown.

The victim was with his girlfriend in Potternewton Park at about 7pm on Sunday August 30, when he became involved in a disagreement with a group of males.

One of the group swung a punch and hit the victim's girlfriend. The victim then ran off and was chased by two males who attacked him after he fell over. One hit him on the head with a large heavy knife and another stamped on his head before the pair walked off.

The victim received a cut to the side of the head which needed six stitches.

The suspects were described as black and aged 16 to 18. One was described as having a chipped front tooth.

Detective Constable Nick Snaith, of Leeds District CID, said: "This was a completely unnecessary attack involving a weapon which left the victim quite badly injured. We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information that could assist in tracing the people responsible."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 811 Snaith at Elland Road via 101.
