Construction on the long-delayed White Rose rail station near Leeds will resume within the coming months, West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin has announced.

Work had been paused since spring 2024 due to financial issues, but these have now been resolved after meetings between the rail industry and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

The station, located on the Leeds to Huddersfield line, is being built adjacent to the White Rose Business Park and White Rose Shopping Centre.

Tracy Brabin said: “Working with our partners, we’ve broken the deadlock at White Rose station."

“We know this delay has caused frustration, but we can now move ahead with delivering a much-needed new station for the area – acting as a catalyst for regeneration and growth.

“I would like to personally thank Network Rail for their efforts in getting us to this point.”

Next week, West Yorkshire Combined Authority members will be asked to approve £1.4 million in development funding and finalise an agreement with Network Rail to restart the project.

Key tasks remaining at White Rose station include external cladding, internal fit-outs, installation of lifts, mechanical and electrical work, and railway systems including signalling and customer information.

A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “We’re pleased to see progress being made on resolving issues related to White Rose station. We will continue to assist West Yorkshire Combined Authority to help deliver this important new station.”
