FOOTAGE of dangerous driving captured on cameras in fire engines will be passed onto police in a bid to reduce road accidents.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service recently took part in a pilot scheme to support West Yorkshire Police’s Operation Snap – a campaign that urges people to send in dashcam footage of dangerous drivers.

Fire crews in Wakefield have already sent numerous videos of poor driving they have encountered during their duties to police.

At a meeting if West Yorkshire Fire Authority’s Community Safety Committee on Friday members were told that this partnership was now being rolled out across West Yorkshire.

As well as dealing with fire incidents, firefighters are also often deployed to the scenes of serious crashes.

A report to the committee said: “Submissions to the Police portal have already been sent, this will hopefully see driving standards and attitudes improve – reducing incidents.”
