Fire crews are tackling a large blaze on Marsden Moore, that broke out on Monday afternoon (22 May).

Crews are currently in attendance around Butterley reservoir.

Plumes of smoke have been seen rising from the moorland from miles away.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Firefighters are currently in attendance at a wildfire on Marsden Moor. Crews were called at around 1.30pm today to the fire at Butterley Reservoir, Wessenden Road in Marsden.

"At the moment the fire measures around 500m x 500m and crews are in attendance from Ossett, Keighley, Todmorden, Halifax and Skelmanthorpe. A drone is enroute and the Argocat is in attendance with wildfire support.”

It comes as the fire service have been running a campaign 'Be Moor Aware'.

They said: 'Each year wildfire destroys thousand of hectares of our countryside, having significant effects on the economy, environment and social fabric of rural areas'.

Someone has tweeted 'Another day, another fire at Marsden Moor'.

The last significant fire on Marsden Moor was earlier this month, on May 3.
