Residents of a block of flats in Wakefield had an Easter Sunday to remember - being evacuated from their homes for much of the day.

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service say they were called out to reports of a gas leak at the building on Kirkgate around 11am on Sunday (9th April), where a major incident was then declared.

Homes were evacuated as works took place to make things safe, the all clear being given around 6.30pm and residents allowed back later on.

Investigation work into the cause of the leak is now underway.
