Bowling alley operator Tenpin has announced plans to take over the former Debenhams store on Wakefield's Trinity walk.

The unit has been vacant since the department store shut its doors in 2021.

A planning application to install lanes inside was approved earlier this year, with Tenpin now confirmed as the operator of the new entertainment venue.

Cllr Michael Graham, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Growth, said: “I’ve been clear about the importance of getting more quality leisure and entertainment options into the city centre for it to thrive. And this is the future of the high street.

"This is fantastic news for this city, and I am delighted that our partners at Trinity Walk are driving this forward."

“I’ve made no secret of my ambition for a bowling centre right in the heart of Wakefield, and I know it’s something residents want to see too.

"So, it’s incredibly exciting to be welcoming Tenpin. This is high-quality private sector investment that shows confidence in our city and Trinity Walk. And it will be a real boost to our high streets and local economy.”
