Two men have been given life sentences after being convicted on murdering a man in Harehills, Leeds.

Daneiko Ferguson was fatally wounded when he was attacked by Alga Lutondo and Halgon Randon in Compton Road, in the early hours of February 15 last year.

The 27-year-old was found by a passing taxi driver and taken to hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead a short time later.

A murder investigation was launched, and a number of suspects were arrested over the following days, including Lutondo, who was detained at Heathrow Airport trying to leave the country.

He was subsequently charged with murder, as was Randon who was arrested on February 23.

Enquiries established that Daneiko had been targeted by the pair following a dispute at an address in Cowper Terrace, Harehills, earlier that night.

Lutondo enlisted Randon to help him get revenge and the pair then trawled the area on bikes searching for Daneiko before confronting him and stabbing him five times.

Following trials at Leeds Crown Court, Lutondo and Randon were found guilty of murder.

Lutondo, aged 33, of of Berkeley Crescent, Harehills, was given a life sentence with a minimum term of 28 years. Randon, aged 44, of Brown Hill Terrace, Harehills, was given a life sentence with a minimum term of 26 years.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Damian Roebuck said: “Daneiko’s family are understandably devastated that he has been taken from them in such violent and unnecessary circumstances.

“Regardless of the apparent background to the attack on him, there can be absolutely no justification for brutally taking someone’s life like this.

“Lutondo and Randon are clearly dangerous individuals who were prepared to use extreme violence to settle a score without any consideration for the consequences.

“We hope their convictions and imprisonment for Daneiko’s murder will give at least some small measure of comfort to his family as they continue to deal with the pain and heartbreak they are going through.”

Daneiko’s mother Hazel Clamp said: “The loss of a child causes immeasurable pain, suffering, guilt, and constant panic attacks, which never goes away. The impact this has had on the family as a whole can be seen daily. We have no enjoyment anymore; we just live to exist.

“My son will never walk his daughter down the aisle. His daughter will never get to show her father all her proud moments in life. Daneiko leaves behind many brothers and sisters, the youngest, who is only four years old, will not remember her brother as she grows. He leaves behind a ten-year-old daughter and lots of family and friends who are heartbroken beyond belief.

“I believe everyone who carries a knife has the capacity to use it. These two individuals caused immense suffering to my son that night and left him to bleed to death without a thought of anyone else but themselves. They have shown no remorse. At the very least they could have phoned Daneiko an ambulance, instead they allowed my son to bleed to death on a cold, miserable night, all alone.

“The thought of what was going through my son’s head on those last few moments of his life will haunt me forever. I believe that he called out for me as I woke at the time of his passing, with a very strange feeling. I didn’t get the chance to hold his hand and say goodbye. I will never forgive or forget the actions of the three of them that night.”
