Local rail operator TransPennine Express is to fit potentially lifesaving defibrillators to part of its train fleet.
The devices, which can be used to help people in cardiac arrest, will be installed in 51 out of 185 TPE trains by the end of March.
They'll be locked away ready for use by crew or passengers in the event of an emergency.
Bushra Khan, Head of Engineering at TransPennine Express, said: “Our defibrillators are a huge benefit to both our customers and the communities we serve.
“This rollout will ensure that people travelling on our services will feel safe and confident that defibrillators are available to help in the event of an emergency, potentially saving lives.”
The defibs have been bought from the British Heart Foundation charity, a large independent funder of heart research in the UK.
