Thousands of people have been lining streets around Leeds to watch this year's Tour De Yorkshire.

World Champion Lizzie Armitstead set off from her home town of Otley at 8.15am this morning.

Crowds turned out to support the 27 year old who is the reigning World, Commonwealth and National road race champion and cheered her arrival on Boroughgate before counting down to the official start.

The race went on to pass through Harewood, Aberford, Barwick in Elmet and Scholes before heading through Wakefield and onto Doncaster.

Dutch rider Kirsten Wild won the race crossing the finishing line just ahead of Britain's Lucy Garner.

The men's race followed the same route but Sir Bradley Wiggins couldn't play any part after dropping out around 15 miles away from the end of Stage One.

Stage Two of the race was won in a photo finish by Dutch rider Danny Van Poppel.

The race continues for the third and final stage between Middlesbrough and Scarborough on Sunday.
