The first elected mayor of West Yorkshire has set out her plans for the region.

Yesterday (9th May), Tracy Brabin from the Labour party became the first mayor for the region.

After a second count, Brabin has 310,923 votes, whilst conservative candidate Matt Robinson had 209,137.

Tracy Brabin said:

"It's about setting in motion the strategy to bring buses back into public control, that is the thing that's impacting on our expansion, the opportunities in West Yorkshire.

"If you can't get about at a fair price, then certainly we are never going to flourish.

"My priority because of covid will be jobs, jobs, jobs.

"So many people, and those over 45-50 have lost their jobs because of covid."
