Right-wing teenager who plotted to kill Muslims in Bradford while dressed as armed police officer jailed
Joe Metcalfe planned to dress as a police officer and carry the attack out on a mosque in Bradford
A 17-year-old boy who planned to kill worshipping Muslims in Bradford while disguised as an armed police officer has been jailed.
Joe Metcalfe researched how to carry out the attack following mass shootings in Christchurch in New Zealand in 2019 and Buffalo in 2022.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of preparing to commit an act of terrorism, having already pleaded guilty to encouraging others to commit terrorism, disseminating terrorist publications, and possessing a bladed article.
The Crown Prosecution Service said Metcalfe spent time watching and sharing violent, racist, homophobic and antisemitic videos.
He made a detailed plan to murder Muslims at a nearby mosque, carrying out a "reconnaissance mission" in his father's car.
Nick Price, head of the CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, said: “Despite his young age his beliefs and willingness to take violent action to propagate them are a threat to our society, and it is right that he has been sentenced today for those crimes."
Metcalfe was was also sentenced after he was convicted at a separate trial for charges of multiple rape, and coercive and controlling behaviour against a teenage girl.
