Stressed Children Lose Sleep Over Exams

Children in our region are losing sleep and skipping meals because they're nervous about their exams.

10 and 11-year olds are losing sleep, skipping meals and can't concentrate because they're stressed about their SATS exams, which begin this week.

Another study found that some are even turning to junk food and cigarettes to help them deal with the stress.

In Leeds, two thirds of children are worried that a bad mark in their exams will have a bad effect on their future.

But half of adults are worried about this too.

Research also found that three quarters of parents think their kids are under more exam pressure than they were at that age.

With exam pressure, some parents found that their children's behaviour changed.

Mum, Nannette Hardacre, is seeing that at the moment.

"He's gone quiet and things like that and you can see the tension building up in him, you can see the anxiety when he went in the gates... As long as he does his best that's good enough for me".
