His death in Minneapolis when a police officer knelt on his neck for nine minutes, sparked global Black Lives Matter protests and led to the toppling of the Edward Colston Statue in Bristol.

As a result, a city-wide review of statues in Leeds took place.

Last year, Alison Lowe led the review, which was announced the day after a statue of Queen Victoria in Woodhouse Moor was sprayed with graffiti.
