Sir Kev says support from fans is 'overwhelming'
Legendary Rhinos skipper Kevin Sinfield MBE says being nominated for Sports Personality of the Year is something he 'never could have dreamed of'.
As the first rugby league player to be nominated for the award, he was orginally the outsider - but odds have been slashed this week, leaving him the current third favourite to win.
He told a press conference this afternoon he's got 'no expectations' from the night - and thanked fans for their support.
"It's been really humbling," he says.
"The support I've had within Leeds has been incredible but further afield from the whole of rugby league has been absolutely awesome.
"The important thing at the end of the day is it's representing the game. Instead of having our usual ten seconds on the night... it's great that finally rugby league has the recognition.
"We might get a four minute slot in front of nine or 10 million viewers, which is key for our game. It's huge for the sport."
Sport's biggest night of the year takes place in Belfaston on Sunday night.
The 11 other contenders are: Otley cyclist Lizzie Armistead, athletes Jessica Ennis-Hill, Greg Rutherford and Mo Farah, boxer Tyson Fury, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, tennis player Andy Murray, gymnast Max Whitlock, swimmer Adam Peaty, cyclist Chris Froome and footballer Lucy Bronze.
