A Shipley man has been jailed for 16 months, after trying to get out of a driving conviction by claiming he'd sold the car involved.

37 year old Mikael Khan was caught on camera driving a BMW carelessly in Leeds last June.

He later forged documents in an effort to pretend he wasn't behind the wheel at the time.

Khan was charged with perverting the course of justice.

Speaking after sentencing, Rachel Wainwright, of West Yorkshire Police, said:

“This conviction demonstrates that we will prosecute those who drive carelessly on our roads, and I would like to thank the person who submitted the footage to Op Snap, which allowed us to open an investigation into the matter.

“Khan went to great lengths to try and avoid a fixed penalty for this incident, but it has only resulted in him receiving a prison sentence.

“Perverting the course of justice is a serious offence and I hope this outcome sends out a warning to anyone who thinks they can evade detection for offences committed on our roads.”
