Published 14th Aug 2015

An investigation is underway into a sex attack in Leeds City Centre in the early hours.

A 19-year-old woman was walking home from a night out when she was approached by a man outside the Palace Pub near Maude Street.

She told the man to go away but he continued to follow her before pushing her up against the wall of the pub. She fought him off and he continued to follow her, eventually dragging her into some bushes on the edge of Maude Street car park.

A female passer-by then spotted the attack and shouted at the man causing him to flee the scene.

He was described as a white man, around 20-30 years old and of medium build with fair brown hair.

Detective Sergeant Mark Atkinson of Leeds District CID, said: "This was clearly a terrifying incident for the victim who is being supported by specially trained officers today. She received some visible physical injuries and was extremely distressed by what took place.

"It is important we locate this suspect as soon as possible and I would ask anyone who saw a man fitting the description walking alongside the victim near the Palace pub, or the same man fleeing the scene to contact us.

"Anyone who can assist is asked to contact myself at Leeds District CID on 101 quoting log 197 of August 14.

“Information can also be given to the independent Crimestoppers charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111."
