Two teenage girls who were passengers in the car with the men who died were seriously injured. One who had been critical in hospital is now stable, the other girl and the 42 year old driver of the Uber are both also still recovering from non-life threatening injuries in hospital.

Officers are still carrying out enquiries into the incident to establish the full circumstances of the collision and the time leading up to it.

Sergeant Fiona Hoodless, of West Yorkshire Police Major Collision Enquiry Team, said, "We believe the people that were travelling in the Leon had left a party at a house in the area shortly before the collision and we are keen to hear from anyone who was at that party and saw those involved and has any information that could assist the investigation."

"It looked like a squashed box. The back half of the car looked fairly okay, but the front half had been concertinaed into about 2 foot long."

Dave who lives nearby saw the immediate aftermath of the crash:

"About 3 o'clock we heard nothing more than a thud - it wasn't what you'd imagine a crash to be. We didn't think anything of it.

"Five minutes later we saw blue flashing lights, so came out of the front of the house and saw there must've been 2 or 3 ambulances at that point, at least 15 police officers and a fire engine. And obbiously, the car itself we could see, couldn't actually see the second vehicle that seems to have been involved.

"It was quite incredible, it looked like a squashed box. The back half of the car looked fairly okay, but the front half had been concertinaed into about 2 foot long."
