Two retired West Yorkshire Police officers have been charged with child sex offences, said to have happened during the mid-1990s.

The pair were both members of the Mounted Section, based in Pontefract, at the time of the allegations.

They were arrested last year after a woman came forward in 2023 to report what had happened to her.

Former Sergeant William Baker, 78, of Hayle inCornwall, has been charged with three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 16 and two counts of rape of a female under 16.

Ex-PC Ian Hopkinson, 63, of Redcar in Cleveland, has been charged with five counts of indecent assault on a girl under 16 and five counts of rape of a female under 16.

A third man, aged 74, who was also arrested last year, has since died.
