It's feared new mums in Leeds could still be suffering in silence when it comes to their mental health.
It's feared new mums in Leeds could still be suffering in silence when it comes to their mental health.
A major new report's found post-natal depression remains undiagnosed in around one in four women.
Bronwen Ashton is from Roundhay- she's opened up to us about her experience:
“I thought I was going to die. I didn’t think I was going to do anything, personally to myself,
“My experience was I just thought everything was shutting down, like I couldn’t understand things,
“And my body just seemed to be stopping working and I was just eventually just close down and expire.”
But in Leeds - more than half of all midwives in the city have been given training to help change that – they’re being trained to spot the signs of Post-natal depression so they can help mums tackle it sooner.
Karen Marshall runs Leeds parent support group 'Best Start' - she told us why some women may hold back:
“You just want to do it right, and if you feel like you’re failing, how can you admit that to yourself or anyone else?
“It’s a lot of pressure, and then if you’ve got a lot of eyes on you, commenting on that or judging the way you are doing things it increases that pressure.”
