The estranged husband of Geraldine Newman - found murdered in a house in Allerton Bywater along with 2 of her children - had previously been charged with domestic abuse against her.

Paul Newman's body was found on cliffs at Anglesey - hours after Geraldine, 6-year-old Shane and 11-year-old Shannon were found in their home.

Safer Leeds - the city's community safety partnership - have released a statement calling the killings a "truly terrible tragedy", and that they're doing all they can to support the families involved.

West Yorkshire Police, along with Leeds City Council, say they're committed to safeguarding victims of domestic abuse and work closely together to ensure the effective protection of victims and others while using the criminal justice system to hold the offender to account where appropriate.

They say the case was flagged up as "high risk" and subject to a detailed review. Agencies monitored the situation for 12 months and there were no other incidents in that time.

The police say they'll be a full multi-agency review of the circumstances.
