Police appeal for witnesses following fatal collision

A man was hit by a lorry near Junction 44 on the A1(M).

West Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the A1(M) Southband near Leeds.

The incident happened at around 10.09am on June 15th between Junction 44 and Junction 43. Officers closed off the motorway in the Southbound direction at around 10.30am.

A Iveco HGV collided with a male who is believed to have been next to a Mercedes recovery van which was stationary on the hard should of the carriageway.

A 36-year-old man sadly died from his injuries.

Sergeant Ann Drury from the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: "This is an incredibly tragic incident and we are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed this collision or indeed seen either of the vehicles prior to the collision to contact us.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact the team via 101 quoting 449 of 15/06."
