Pensioner dies after house fire in Leeds

An investigation is underway after a fatal house fire in Leeds.

Emergency services were called early yesterday morning (20/10/24)to Haighside Close in Rothwell.

A man in his 80's was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say that there are no suspicious circumstances and the coroners office has been informed.

A Police statement said:

"At 5.28am yesterday, police were contacted by the fire service who were attending a fire at house in Haighside Close, Rothwell.

"The sole occupant of the address, a man in his eighties, was removed from the property and given emergency treatment by ambulance staff but was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

"There were no suspicious circumstances and the Coroner’s Office has been informed."

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said:

"We were called at 05:16 on the 21st to Haighside Close in Leeds to reports of a house fire.

"We sent three crews, Rothwell, Hunslet and Leeds.

"West Yorkshire Police have more information on this incident."
