Pedestrian killed and driver arrested after Castleford crash

A 74 year old man has died and a driver has been arrested after a pedestrian was hit by a car in Castleford yesterday.

It happened at around 2:45pm on Barnsdale Road, just after the bridge over the River Aire.

The victim has been struck by a blue Honda Civic which had been travelling along Barnsdale Road/Lock Lane towards Allerton Bywater and failed to stop at the scene.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the efforts of paramedics.

A man in his 30s is being questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving over the limit.

Any witnesses, or anyone who captured dashcam footage in the area, at the time is being urged to contact West Yorkshire Police on 101.
