The family of a 25-year-old man from Keighley say the YAS let their son down, after it took over an hour for them to get him after a crash.

Kyle was involved in a multi-vehicle collision on Moor Road, Burley in Wharfedale on July 20, 2021.

Kyle's parents, Andrew and Samantha Goater told us the YAS were first phoned at 4.54pm, but it took four minutes for a call handler to pick up.

The crews didn't arrive at the crash site until 6.07pm, and by then Kyle had been in cardiac arrest for eight minutes.

Andrew told us in the inquest, they were told YAS had nearby resources available at 5.34pm - but these were not deployed at the time.

He said: "The pathologist said if the ambulance would have arrived in it's own guidelines, and the time taken from there, and the time taken to get Kyle to hospital, he had an 83% chance of survival.

"At the time the ambulance did arrive, Kyle was having CPR and he'd been cardiac arrest for eight minutes before the ambulance arrived, and they gave him a 4% chance of survival."

Andrew also said: "They let Kyle down big time".

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said:

“First and foremost, we would like to express our sympathy to the family and friends of Kyle Goater following his death in July 2021 after a road traffic collision.

“The Trust contributed fully to the Coroner’s inquest and acknowledges the error made in dispatching an ambulance to the incident. We are committed to learning from this.

“Our thoughts remain with Kyle’s family.”
