Parents Ignore School Fine To Take Kids On Holiday
A new survey shows that one in eight parents will take their children out of school for a holiday - despite risking a fine of £60 per child, per parent.
Of 2000 parents, new survey shows that 11% of parents in Yorkshire agreed with the statement: "I am planning to take my child out of school during the last week of this year's summer term to reduce the cost of the family holiday."
A mum from Leeds says it's impossible to book a summer holiday and avoid the fine, because school term times are different every year.
"Even though you could go on the Leeds education website, there'll give you an indication of when the holdiay's likely to be - it's not guaranteed. So you could book your holiday's thinking they'll be in the school holidays and that might not be the case.
"When you've got children at different schools as well - like I'm going to have come September - they're not going to have the same holidays."
Linda Dean from Pudsey has just booked a holiday for October risking having to pay nearly £500 but says she doesn't think her children miss out on education because towards the end of term they might be playing games or watching films.
"If you were to take your child out on the Thursday or Friday before they broke up, the holiday can be nearly half the price. Parents are risking getting the fines because even to pay for them, like me with four children, it's still going to save you a lot of money."
