A man and woman who murdered a missing vulnerable man in Bradford and left his body hidden in a bedroom alcove have been jailed.

A family member reported Stephen Kershaw missing in September - the 65-year-old's body was discovered at his home three days later.

Ian Mitchell, 35, and Sarah Pearson, 23, both from Shetcliffe Lane, then went on a spending spree with his money.

They both pleaded guilty to murder and fraud, with Mitchell given a minimum sentence of 22 years and Pearson a minimum of 19 years in jail.

In a statement, Mr. Kershaw's family said: "“Dad was a kind and gentle soul and was much loved and cared about by his family and friends and he is greatly missed by all of us.

“They will serve their sentences but the heartbreak and grief we feel for the loss of our dad and grandad will be never ending."

Senior investigating officer Detective Superintendent Marc Bowes of the Homicide and Major Enquiry team said: “Stephen was murdered in his own home by two people he thought he could trust.

“Mitchell and Pearson took advantage of Stephen and used him for financial gain.

“We welcome the guilty plea and conviction for murder, they both deserve to be behind bars for a very long time."
