Mum Speaks Of 'Incredible' Transformation After Daughter's Kidney Transplant
A three-year old girl, who's spent most of her life on the children's ward at the Leeds General Infirmary, is taking part in the transplant games today.
Mia, from Harrogate, had a new kidney last November after months of lying on the sofa unable to move.
She's now taking part in events like running and beanbag throwing and has raised £24,000 for the hospital.
Her mum Sammy says it's been an amazing transformation.
"Seeing her walking into a shop and not having to be pushed in her pushchair is just like 'oh my god' - it's absolutely incredible. She can do anything now - absolutely anything, there's nothing stopping her whereas before she'd just lie of the sofa, she'd be awake for just a couple of hours a day - she's completely different.
"She's been poorly since birth, she's been in and out. We never went two days without any treatments or infusions or in-patient days for the first sort of two years of her life. **We've lived in this ward. Since her transplant she's not had one in-patient day, which is incredible. "
It's after the announcement she was to be a patron for the hospital's "Be a Hero" campaign, which is encouraging people to register as a donor.
