A West Yorkshire mum of a 4-year-old with a terminal heart condition is supporting a fundraiser in Leeds for Heart Research UK.

Heidi Green's son Jaxon has a condition so rare that only 200 people in the world are known to have it.

She told Radio Aire that they live in hope that a cure is found:

“It’s really hard knowing that at the moment there is no cure. We’re just hoping and praying that there is a cure found before it’s too late. We take every day as it comes and every extra day we have with Jaxon is a blessing”

Next week, Rugby League star Adrian Purtell will swim the length of the Channel in his local pool and is urging others to do the same to help raise funds to help hearts near them.

The Bradford Bulls skipper is an ambassador for Heart Research UK, after he suffered a heart attack following a match against Leeds in 2012. He will take on the Swim the Channel Challenge at Virgin Active in Kirkstall Road, Leeds on 9 March.

He’ll be doing the 22-miles with Bulls teammates Dan Fleming and James Mendeika to help raise funds for Heart Research UK’s Helping Little Hearts campaign to provide exercise toolkits for all young heart patients.
