Man released on bail in Keighley hit and run investigation

A 49 year-old man - arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving - after a 9 year-old boy died in a hit and run in Keighley on Friday - has been bailed.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene - after it happened in Sutton in Craven just after 9.30pm.

It was reported that a white van was in collision with the boy, and another pedestrian who suffered minor injuries, before making off from the scene.

The van was a white Peugeot Partner van which had been travelling in the Keighley area prior to the collision.

A 49-year-old man later attended at a police station in North Yorkshire and was arrested - he has since been bailed.

Detective Sergeant Fiona Allan, of West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “A nine-year-old boy has tragically lost his life and our top priority is supporting his family and ensuring that a thorough investigation is carried out into the events that have led to his death.

“This collision has happened right on the border of West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire and we are keen to speak to anyone who has witnessed this collision or who believes they may have seen the van involved immediately prior to or following this incident.”
