A man's suffered minor injuries after a gun was allegedly fired outside a takeaway in Huddersfield last night.

Police were called at 9:04pm to Blacker Road in the Birkby area, finding the 28 year old with injuries consistent with a firearms discharge.

He's been treated in hospital.

Police say enquiries remain ongoing in the area with specialists at the scene.

Detective Inspector Matthew Holdsworth of the Major Enquiry Team said:

“Our enquiries are in the initial stages and we are very keen to hear from anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area of Blacker Road last night.

“We recognise that incidents of this nature will cause understandable concern in the local community and we are liaising with our colleagues on the local neighbourhood policing team who will be visible in the area to reassure people.

“The criminal use of firearms on the streets is something that we will always treat extremely seriously, and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify those responsible."

West Yorkshire Police are urging witnesses to come forward.
