Man dies following house fire in Leeds as investigation launched

A man has died and another woman "very poorly" in hospital following a house fire in Leeds today (20 November).

Police were called by the fire service to Hardrow Road, Leeds at 9.34am to a report of an ongoing fire affecting two adjacent properties.

Officers attended the scene and two people, a woman from the upper maisonette flat and a man from the lower one, were reported to have suffered very serious injuries.

A man, believed to be in his 60s, has died as a result of injuries sustained in the fire.

The woman, aged 68, was taken to hospital where she is described as in a very poorly but stable condition

Detective Inspector Dan Ridgeway of Leeds District CID, said: “This has clearly been a very serious and tragic incident in which a man has lost his life.

“Initial enquiries into the cause of the fire are underway with colleagues from the fire service and emergency services remain on scene.

“Officers are working to support relatives of those involved and a full investigation of the circumstances of the incident will take place.”
