Man dies after being hit by a car while crossing the road
The male driver has been arrested and is currently in custody
A 75-year-old man has died after being hit by a van while crossing the road, in Wakefield.
The incident occurred at about 4.10pm on Sunday (20 February) when a green and grey Citroen Berlingo van, which was travelling South West, was in collision with a man who was crossing the road, on Westerton Road, Tingley.
The man suffered serious injuries and later died in hospital.
The male driver was arrested from the scene and remains in police custody.
Police are appealing for information, witnesses or dash cam footage to help with their investigation.
Sergeant Mick Kilburn of the Major Collision and Enquiry Team, said:
“We are continuing to investigate this incident in which a man has sadly lost his life.
“Anyone who saw what happened or who saw the van beforehand or has footage of the incident is asked to contact the Major Collision and Enquiry Team on 101 referencing police log 1176 of February 20.”
