Leeds man travelling to Ukrainian border with urgent medical supplies
Scott Hopkins is hoping to set off this afternoon (11th March) from Halifax
A man from Leeds is driving to the Ukrainian border today, to deliver urgent medical supplies, to those who need it most.
Scott Hopkins tells us around £3,000 - £4,000 has been raised by local people. When he arrives, he'll use the money to buy supplies that refugees need most.
He's paid £1,000 towards donations himself, but is urging the public help him raise another £1,000to cover additional costs like fuel, tolls and ferry crossings.
The van will be full of emergency medical supplies.
Scott Hopkins said:
"We've collected quite a lot of money, so I'm able to speak to the refugees direct and find out what they need, and if we can, we'll go back further into Poland and go and buy what they want, it's not just dropping off the medical supplies. If I need to, I'll stay longer.
"I'm struggling to hold my tears back, I've found it all really emotional.
"Word just spread Phenomenally, and the donations have been incredible, I had one from a lovely pensioner, he said I don't have much but I can donate £10, I hope it helps, and everything does help.
"When I said I'd do this I thought I'd just jump in a van, drive to where the refugees are, dropping something off and coming back, I never expected the fundraising, the gift page."
