A Leeds salon could help lead the way in making the beauty industry more environmentally friendly
L'Oréal and Net Zero Now are partnering to launch the initiative to help make the industry more environmentally friendly
The Cutting Edge in Chapel Allerton is one of 17 salons taking part in the UK wide scheme.
Data from the initial Net Zero Salons pilot estimates that the average salon appointment produces 3.1kg of greenhouse gas emission.
The programme aims to work with salons towards a benchmark of 2kg per salon appointment and has the potential to reduce the sector’s emissions by a third (33%).
The Net Zero Salons Programme - a first of its kind - is personalised to give salons an in-depth report on their emissions, ongoing tracking and tailored goals, such as switching to a renewable energy tariff, improving waste treatment and management, reducing water consumption and heating and incentivising employees with ride to work schemes or encouraging public transport – all with the ambition of certifying as a ‘Net Zero Salon’.
Karen Dodd's is the director of Cutting Edge, she said: "We have got the special taps on all our water's which restrict the flow so we're not going through masses and masses of water.
"L'Oréal in their investigations with us have come up with a new type of shower hose that can go on all of our taps which is going to halve our water flow. "
However, she does understand that it is more costly started the journey to Net Zero.
