West Yorkshire Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was seriously injured in a collision in Leeds.
Officers were first alerted to an incident taking place at the Cock Beck pub on Pendes Way in Crossgates at 11:55pm on Friday evening (December 6th).
Police said they received multiple reports of a man driving his car at people in the pub's car park and attended the scene shorty afterwards.
When responders arrived at the scene, they found a woman in her 50s requiring immediate medical treatment, and was shortly taken to hospital.
An update from police found that the injuries sustained in the incident were not found to be life-threatening, but the woman continues to recover in hospital.
Twenty minutes later at 12:17am on Saturday morning (December 7th), a collision on the junction of Selby Road and York Road in Leeds was reported to officers.
It was soon established that the car - a Toyota RAV4, which had been involved in the collision with a Toyota Prius - was the same car involved in the earlier incident.
The driver of the RAV4 suffered serious injuries in the crash and was also taken to hospital, with his injuries also not deemed to be life-threatening.
Police confirmed a 48-year-old man has been on suspicion of attempt murder, driving whilst disqualified and possession of Class B drugs.
Speaking on the case, Detective Inspector Daniel Ridgway from West Yorkshire Police said: "The victim has been seriously injured in what appears to be the deliberate use of a vehicle as a weapon and we have extensive enquiries ongoing to establish the circumstances of what has taken place.
“We have already spoken to a number of witnesses at the scenes of both the initial incident on Pendas Way and the subsequent collision at the junction of Selby Road and York Road, but I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to us to come forward. I would also ask people who live or were in the area to check their CCTV or dashcam to see if they have captured any relevant footage.”
Anyone who may have any relevant information on the case is being urged to get in touch as soon as possible by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 13240665210.
